Joined up living isn’t new. Actually it’s old as the hills. And it’s relevant for everyone – from eco kids to green grannies and everyone in between.
It’s about joining the dots and making connections. Take an example. Rubbish. We throw something away, but where’s ‘away’? It doesn’t stop existing just because we can’t see it any more. It’s still out there – somewhere.
We’re good at putting parts of our life into pigeonholes – work, home, kids, family, school, college, food, holidays, friends, pets. We’re too busy to see outside the box and appreciate that everything’s joined up. Everything we do has an effect on everything else.
As human beings we’re connected to everything around us. We think about other nations and species living on this planet as ‘us’ and ‘them’. But it’s all us – we all live here on this planet. Earth is our home – and it’s the only one we’ve got. What we do affects us all.
We’re living in times of change. We can see and feel it going on everywhere. Economically, ecologically, nationally and internationally.
So maybe it’s a good time to look at how we live our lives with new eyes. There are so many things we can do to live more sustainably. These changes don’t have to be hard or complicated or tortuous. Changing your heart as well as your mind makes everything easier than you think.
It’s the natural way to go – easy and seamless. A new way of being. One small step at a time. Don’t beat yourself up for not doing enough. Congratulate yourself for each small step. It all helps. It’s better to light a candle than curse the darkness.
We have loads of ideas and suggestions for small simple steps to get you started (see our practical pages). But you don’t have to do this alone. If you fancy any help, support and invaluable tips, take a look at our Join JULI pages...
